New Year's Resolutions

1.  Backup everything from 2006, and move the backup offsite.  Done!
In addition to continuously using mozy, I just backed up everything (besides video, which is already archived to DVD) to DVD and moved that DVD offsite (away from home).  Yes, my year's work fits on one little platter.  Including my iTunes library.  What does that say about me?  Remember, if google can lose your data, anybody can.  WordPress bloggers (ahem, halophoenix) would do well to click on Admin->Manage->Backup right now, before closing this tab.  So easy to do!

2.  Site redesign.  (I'm feeling minimalist!)

3.  New AJAX site.  (Just for fun.)

Thanks for the reminder to beef up my backup scheme. Do you use mozy free, or unlimited? People would do well to think about this issue. It's not a question of if your hard drive will fail, but when. And of course the remote possibility of worse catastrophe should be thought of too.

I'm using Mozy free, right now. I was a relatively early adaptor, and I can say that the service has improved over time. They get my recommendation.

"Worse catastrophe" can include things like: leak from ceiling, children/animals playing too close to the computer, etc. Anything could happen!

Oh, thanks Dave. That comment was from me, anonymously accidentally. The hardest thing for me will be our pictures. Do I rely on a shutterbug or ofoto to not lose them? You are probably right in saying I shouldn't.

Perhaps because we have an 8 megapixel camera, the photo collection is far above the 2GB limit. I suppose I should manage a bunch of DVDs like you do for your movies .

The other advice I would add here for anyone else reading is to run through a "practice recovery". I had backups and when my drive went, I was unable to recover my email because I assumed I had backed up all of the mozilla tbird files, when in fact I had forgotten a crucial one.
