I hate Windows Desktop Search 3.01

I allow Microsoft to update my OS with critical updates.  Today it changed my taskbar by adding Windows Desktop Search 3.01.  Um, Microsoft?  Thanks, but no thanks.  I like the search tools I use.  And if I've already got a search box there, I'd appreciate it if you'd ask before moving it away from where I put it.  You're too late to this game.

Also, what a pain that that I didn't have to restart when WDS got installed, but I have to restart if I uninstall it.  And then, after restarting, Windows happily sees that it's missing, and tries to install it again.

Thanks God the OS allows me to stop that, and to check "Don't inform me of this update anymore."

Ugh.

I've always used "custom update" and looked at each and every item it intends to install. Thanks for the heads up on this one.

Hmm, I keep running Windows 2000 and Mister MS is not pushing updates my way.
(OK, I have an XP box but that is strictly for work -and I almost never work-from-home - so it's the network-guys job to keep it OK)

BTW is it Mister MS or Mama Microsoft ^__^

Yay! Glad to see I'm not the only one who was totally annoyed by this "update." Promptly uninstalled it too. I don't need any more crap running in the system tray, and I liked the search just fine the way it was! :D

No shit. What is up with Microsoft thinking they have to do everything for dumb fucking people? If I want some idiot application THRASHING my hard drive to the point of a mechanical error, I'd fucking install google desktop. Jesus christ. They can't just leave well enough alone.

Ubuntu and various other Linux OS'es are getting real close to prime time.
If MS keep up this crap, they are hurting themselves more than anything.

Windows Desktop Search is a resource hog. There is no way to uninstall it successfully on my machine ( it is missing in the add / remove programs) and the uninstall in c:\windows\ is missing. Damn Microsoft for forcing it on us. It's a worse offence than forcing the non functioning Yahoo toolbar in IE7 onto the internet community. A pox upon you Microsoft.

First turn indexing off under Indexing Options, THEN go under 'Programs and Features' and select 'Turn windows Features on or Off' There's more shit you have to uncheck here, but that does (I think) actually kill it.

I know it drive me batty when i disabled indexing and it continued to index my hard drive. Vista is full of fail.

Windows Desktop Search Stinks
This crummy program which Billy Boy Gates has launched into my computer is the worst program I have ever seen. It is formatted so poorly, takes up 4MB, and doesn't give answers. I removed it immediately! This program is total SHIT!
